That would be me.

I am a political & news junkie, sports nut and wannabe stand-up comedian.  For the record, I perform comedy in Washington, DC and New York city  but you’ll have to come see it to decide for yourself if I am funny.  I am also a writer and communications strategist.

My work in politics started when I was eight.  I went door-to-door distributing campaign literature for a local Democratic Congressional candidate.  This was in suburban Long Island and in a two to one Republican district, which proves my parents didn’t like me very much.  Of course they also raised me a Met fan so that should say it all.  Think about it.  I grew up mostly in New York (Full disclosure: I was born in San Francisco and spent a lot of time growing up there, too and that will come up — it is also the reason I am a Niner fan.), a state with TWO baseball teams.  One wins all the time and the other sucks.  So they raised me to love the team that breaks my heart every year.  Nice.

After college I moved to Washington, DC to work in politics.  That’s what I have been doing pretty much ever since.  I started in Senator Dianne Feinstein’s office where I learned if our founding fathers were transported in time to now and their only view of us was people who visit and call Congressional offices, we would have a very different form of government today.

My first presidential campaign was Clinton/Gore ’96 — that was also when I started doing advance.  If you aren’t sure what that is, well, when a president or presidential candidate go anywhere, a team of staff go ahead of them (in advance of them, one might say).  After that election, I worked on the 1997 Presidential Inaugural Committee and then White House advance for the duration of the Clinton Administration.  Subsequently, I did it for Gore/Lieberman 2000 and then Kerry/Edwards 2004.  In between that, I had a pit stop of sorts doing media relations for the United Nations.  In 2008, I was a radio/TV booker for the Hillary campaign.  I booker her on TV and her surrogates on radio.  Some of the most surreal conversations I have ever had were when I booked radio interviews for President Bill Clinton.  About an hour after each interview I booked I would get a call, “You’re never going to believe who just called me…”  Uh, was it President Clinton?  Right, remember when I booked that?

Since 2008, I have been writing and doing public relations consulting.  In 2010, I started working for the Halo Project (now Clear, Inc.) as a Senior Communications Strategist. I also spent last summer in Charlotte, North Carolina working on the 2012 Democratic National Convention.  If you were wondering which side of the aisle I sit on, I have a Democratic donkey tattooed above my left butt cheek.  Seriously.

That doesn’t mean, however, that I think all Republicans are bad or evil nor are all Democratic ideas great.  We could all learn a lot from each other and I wish there was more of a dialogue between the two parties.  Remember that first campaign I worked on when I was eight?  It was against former Congressman Bill Carney, who was the only Conservative Party member in Congress.  We’re good friends now.
